Book Marketing Ideas That Can Help Authors Increase Sales: Create Box Sets and Bundles
Bundle the first few books in a series. Include the first two or three books of a series in a box set to promote a full-price book later in the series. This can be a way to hook readers and make them invested in the characters so they’re willing to pay full-price to know how the tale ends. Promote the next book in the series in the box set’s back matter.
Create a box set for standalones. Bundling standalones can increase loyal readership or drive sales of a new release if you launch your box set when your new release is published. You can strategically choose standalones to package together that include similar themes, whether by sub-genre, location, point in time, similar protagonists, holiday setting, or something else.
Include exclusive content in your box set. Adding a novella or short story to your box set could entice readers to buy the box set instead of just purchasing the first book in the set. This may also help convince your existing loyal readers to purchase the box set in addition to the individual titles they’ve already purchased.
Publish a multi-author anthology. Partner with other authors to create an anthology of novellas or short stories. If you promote the collection to your audiences, you can each increase your exposure by reaching the other authors’ audiences.

Why Marketing For Freelance Writers - By DR. Kenneth Atchity and Ridgely Goldsborough
FIVE DAY Giveaway Amazon
As always, it’s an honour to have the opportunity to pose questions to the people that managed to put pen to paper and outline the things that writers think about daily.
Kenneth, welcome.
Thanks, Nadine. It’s good to chat with you again.
Ken, most of our audience already know you well from all the books you have put out there giving insight to everyone that struggles to make their dreams a reality whether in writing or film. You created the book – WHY? Marketing for Freelance Writers - together with Ridgely Goldsborough. What made you decide to create such collaboration?
My old friend and former student Ridgely told me about the new marketing techniques his group have developed and asked me to write a book applying those techniques to writers.
How has writing changed over time?
Writing itself hasn’t changed since storytelling began in ancient cave times. It’s the physical techniques of writing and the delivery vehicles that have changed—from cuneiform styluses among the Babylonians to the stylus pad of today.
How has the need of writers changed?
Writers need audiences. That hasn’t changed. But methods for reaching audiences have become more challenging in direct proportion to the explosive global potential of even the simplest messages—like tweets.
How has marketing one’s writing changed?
Writers must now compete with hundreds of thousands of others with similar skills, but have a forum for the competition—the World Wide Web—that allows literary knights to joust 24/7 with their competitors.
If you could give writers a one sentence tip about what they need to do what would it be?
It’s not about what you do or how you do it that matters to your prospective client, it’s WHY you do it.
How did Ridgely Goldsborough contribute to the book?
Ridgely provided the theory, I was the scribe.
How has the market accepted it thus far?
We haven’t launched the book yet. This interview begins the launch. The book will be given away to your readers free from 7/29-8/3!
Who does this book target?
It targets everyone who writes for others.
What are the key elements to remember in marketing your work?
Key is knowing WHY you write, a discovery that will lead to a whole new dynamic motivation.
You have exclusive videos that writers can go and look at – where can they find these?
Best place to find my videos: kenatchity.blogspot.com and www.storymerchant.com
You have some great worksheets at the back of the book. My only question is once I have sat down and actually worked through them who will help me with constructing the guidelines of my ideas?
You can sign up right in the book for our guidance through the marketing process.
As a final – where to from here? What’s the next step?
For me, I’m launching a whole new series of books about writing… For you, figure out your WHY and communicate it to your entire network!

Why Marketing For Freelance Writers is a book
about a remarkably powerful way to attract, engage and connect with your
audience. The book was written with it's core focus being on how freelance
writers—including ghost writers--can be more effective in marketing their own work.

WHY EVERY AUTHOR SHOULD BE USING VIDEO TO PROMOTE THEIR BOOKS AND THEMSELVES!
Video is incredibly powerful because it has the benefit of non-verbal communication, including your smile, to connect with people. Text is fantastic but it is essentially 'flat'
and video can help you to become a 3 dimensional author that people resonate with.
The reasons people are scared of video are:
a) they hate their face, voice, looks
b) they don't know how to use the technology
But it is definitely worth investigating for the following
reasons:
* Video search is increasing and you want to be found. Over 65% of search is now VIDEO and you can see videos on the front page of search rankings now.
* The technologies are here now! Google owns YouTube and is starting to use voice recognition software to make indexing video easier. This means you can rank in the video search engine for your keywords.
* Book sales increase when people know, like and trust you. A human connection is much more easily made over video than text.
* Video can be the basis of your platform. Video blogging is more popular then ever and it is quick and easy now with easy to use technology.
* Video drives traffic to your online hub, your author website or book sales site
* The demographics of video may surprise you. It's not just kids surfing LOLcats. Its adults 18-49 and 25-54.
* You have a chance to stand out and stay competitive in this market. Authors must use video as part of any book promotion plans. If you don't want your face online you should consider A VIDEO BOOK TRAILER, which is part of STORY MERCHANT BOOK MARKETING SERVICES.
We have an amazing new piece of technology that puts YOU into a professional interview setting all from your iphone or Ipad! LET US SHOW YOU A SAMPLE OF HOW YOUR INTERVIEW WILL LOOK! IT'S DONE RIGHT FROM YOUR HOME! EDITED AND READY FOR PLACEMENT ON ALL OF YOUR BLOGS AND PLATFORMS WITHIN MINUTES!

Use The Book Trailer Where It Has The Greatest Effect
By Lance Robbins, Story Merchant Book Marketing, former head of
Fox Family Films
The first and most effective place to promote your trailer is on YouTube, as this will ensure as many readers see it as possible.
Next, you can add your video trailer to your Goodreads author profile page – this can set you apart from all the other authors on there, most of whom are not taking advantage of this. Amazon also allow you upload videos to Amazon Author Central – provided you stick to their rules.
Finally, make sure you embed the Youtube video trailer on your own author blog too. (You can even direct agents and publishers to it there, if you’re taking the traditional print publishing pathway – this will give you a huge advantage over most other authors seeking similar deals.)
