The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) is a program co-sponsored by the Office of Library Media and the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME). This program for students in grades 3-8 is designed to entice students to read high interest, contemporary literature for personal enjoyment.

NEW! 2013 Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice Selection



The Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice Award is a reading enrichment program of the LCFTB. Participation in this program has climbed from 5,485 votes the first year to over 29,000 students participating in 2009. The purpose of the program is to foster a love of reading in the children of Louisiana by motivating them to participate in the recognition of outstanding books. Books must be published three years prior to the award being given.

RICHLAND, Wash. - Radioactive waste doesn't seem like obvious inspiration for a children's story. But in fact, comic books are full of tales that involve radiation. Think Spider-Man.

Now a Northwest author (Royce Buckingham) has written a new children's thriller (The Dead Boys) about a radioactive-waste-slurping sycamore tree. It's set near the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in southeast Washington.
